International Centre of Excellence in Mining Safety & Automation (iCEM) has been set up by the Government of Gujarat to be a Knowledge Organisation that scouts for best-in-class innovations that will help GMDC and the overall mining sector better prepare for the future.

It identifies innovators (mature as well as early stage) and helps them develop their technology and conduct proof of concept trials and then, if suitable, get their technology inducted for real world use in mining.

iCEM also works to understand the future skills needed for a more climate conscious and tech enabled mining sector and helps develop those skills.

Established in 2016, iCEM has a world class campus 60 km from Ahmedabad, and is now entering an accelerated growth phase. An operational team is building up under a new CEO and the management of GMDC is excited about the catalytic potential of iCEM.
